TodrixPad turns your iPhone into a key pad for your Mac. You need the iPhone app (iOS 15 or later) and the TodrixPad for Mac app (macOS 14 or later), on the same network.
Frequently asked questions
The dot at the bottom of the app is red: the iPhone doesn't connect
Tap the dot: the app tells you why and retries right away. Then check, in this order:
- the Mac is on, awake and on the same network as the iPhone (the iPhone's Personal Hotspot works too);
- on the Mac there's the T made of five keys in the menu bar: if it's missing, open TodrixPad from Applications;
- on the iPhone, Settings › TodrixPad › Local Network is on;
- on the Mac, System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › TodrixPad is on.
If the Mac changes address, the app finds it again by itself.
I can't find TodrixPad on the Mac
TodrixPad has no Dock icon: it lives in the menu bar, at the top right (a T made of five keys). If the menu bar is full or there's the screen notch, macOS hides the icons that don't fit: hold ⌘ and drag the T further right, or remove icons you don't use. In any case, opening TodrixPad from Applications shows the welcome window with the status and all the commands.
How does the Mac app update?
From version 1.0.2 by itself: once a day it checks for a new version and offers it to you; from the menu › Check for Updates… you check right away. It installs only updates signed by TodrixPad. With 1.0.1 or earlier, download the DMG from the download page.
Can I try the app without a Mac?
Yes: on first launch tap Try without a Mac, or turn on Settings › Demo mode. The keys control a simulated Mac; turn it off when you pair your Mac.
How do I pair the iPhone with the Mac?
On the Mac: TodrixPad menu › Pair iPhone…. On the iPhone: Settings › Pair with QR code and scan the QR code (or choose the Mac in the list and use the 6 digits). Then on the Mac press Allow.
The QR code and the code are valid for 2 minutes and once only. The QR code is the safest way.
“The Mac no longer recognizes this iPhone” or “different certificate”
The pairing was revoked on the Mac, or the Mac's identity was reset. Pair again with the QR code. If you did neither and the message appears, don't connect: another computer might be answering.
A key says the Accessibility or Screen Recording permission is needed
On the Mac open the TodrixPad menu › Permissions… and grant what's missing. Screen Recording applies after restarting TodrixPad (there's a button in the window). If a switch is on but doesn't work, remove TodrixPad from the list with − and add it again with +.
Volume or brightness don't change
With a monitor's speakers (HDMI, DisplayPort) macOS doesn't allow adjusting the volume, not even with the keyboard: use the Mac's speakers or headphones. Brightness changes the MacBook's built-in screen; external monitors usually don't allow it.
How do I change the keys?
Settings › Edit keys: add, move, rename, change icon and action, and try the key before saving. In Suggested categories you'll find ready-made groups (Meetings, Development). The keys are also in the file keys.json, in the Files app › On My iPhone › TodrixPad.
Is it secure?
The connection is encrypted (TLS 1.3) and the Mac accepts commands only from iPhones you paired and approved; in Settings › Paired devices you can revoke them. Commands that can run anything (shell and AppleScript) are off until you turn them on, on the Mac. Nothing goes through the internet.
